Survey Shows 90% soy seeds treated before plantation-Report

A recent survey American Soybean Association and the United Soybean Board determined how American farmers feel about soy seeds treatment and the alternatives.

To reduce pest damage and other environmental pressures on the plants, the soy seed are coated with pesticides and other chemical to protect them from damage.

The method is widely used across the country by farmers to increase soybean production and reduce risks of pests and other environmental issues.

The survey shows that there are alternative ways and methods to treat the seed before plantation but most of the farmers treat the seeds with pesticides and chemicals to reduce pest and environmental pressure on the plants and increase production of the soybean.

US farmers are using these methods because they are cost saving, effective, safe, and reliable for the soy seeds treatment. This help the farmers control the pests, improve the plants health, and providing early season plants.

Survey was conducted in the largest soybean production states

The survey was conducted in July 2023 with 491 online responses from the farmers who grow at least 150 acre land from the 17 largest soybean production states.

on average 90% of the acres was planted with treated seeds across the country, 3% did not use any treated soybean seeds, while only 6% treat their own soybeans. the rest of the farmers rely on their retailers or on the companies to treat their soybeans.

According to the report two out of five reported that they store the treated seeds in their storages to plant them the next year. Most of the time, the treated seeds are not stored before they are transferred to farmers for plantation.
