Two third of the farms are using modern and precision technology to monitor crops, soil health, and production of grains to lower costs.
The use of these technologies is mainly dependent on various factors in the agricultural sector of America. These factors can range from the farm size, production, input costs, and precision technology type.Â
According to the USDA annual report the precision technologies are used to monitor various factors such as yield monitors, yield maps and soil maps to make informed decisions to get maximum output with lower inputs.
According the report 68% of the larger farms are using precision technology while 13% of the family land or small farms were using the precision technologies.Â
The automated and auto steering technologies were used on 70% of large-scale farms , 52% of midsize farms, and 9% of small farms. The number increased with the farm size because the large farms can get more benefit of these precision technologies and yields more results.
while on the other hand small farms used 5% of variable precision technologies, 45% of large farms used the variable technologies, and 32% of midsize farms used the technology.
The race for drone was not adopted in the agricultural with great number or impact as is used only by limited farmers while milking robots were used by 19% of the livestock farmers while wearable precision technologies were used by 1% to 12% in the livestock sector.

There are various motives and factors behind the adoption of the precision technology in the agricultural sector. The farmers adopted these technologies due to various reasons but some of most stated benefits were the main reasons of the adoption of the precision technologies.
Lower costs:
Lower cost is one of the most prominent motive behind the adoption of the precision technologies in the agricultural sector of USA. 62% of the farmers were convinced and motivated by the cost saving in the agricultural sector by the precision technologies.
Reduced Labor:
Reduced labor is also on of the most important motives behind the adoption of the precision technologies in the farming and agricultural sector of the United states. They can yield more crops with lower human labor.
Informed Decision Making:
With the help of the precision technologies, the farmers are able to make informed decisions about their crops, soil health, inputs, and irrigation of the farms and crops.

The percentage of the technology usage also varied by state. According to the report states with major grain production used the technology with 27% of farms used the technology exceeding 50% in some major states.
52 percent of the farms indicated that the adoption for the technology is more production in the agricultural sector while reducing human labor. while 77% of the farmers think in the robotic milking in the livestock sector to produce more with less human involvement.
